LIES, LIES, LIES!
Exposing myths about the real Jesus

A man was looking for a watertight argument for the truth of Christianity. His pastor replied, ‘God has not given us a watertight argument, but a watertight person’.

That is the point made in this book and Green does so by showing the historical reliability of the New Testament. It is written with clarity and easy to read. There are many media myths about Jesus, but he writes, ‘I am convinced that the calumnies put out against him are lies’.

Green is an historian, a New Testament scholar and a seasoned author. He exposes many factual errors and the sheer sceptical prejudice of many assaults made against Christ. He presents the basic gospel message and defends the New Testament against the confused ideas from Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Cod, Tom Harpur’s The Pagan Christ, Liberal and Muslim attacks, and the TV documentary The Lost Tomb of Jesus. Clear evidence is also given for Jesus’s resurrection and deity.

There are two brief but significant errors in his response to God is not Great by Christopher Hitchens. First, Green denies our guilt in Adam. Second, he considers it a misconception to call hell eternal torture. Sadly, on both these points it is Hitchens who has correctly understood the Bible, and Green who sidesteps the Bible’s teaching. Apart from these points this is an excellent book, giving solid and accessible answers to those who want to speak about Jesus in our culture.
