WORKING WITHOUT WILTING
Starting well to finish strong
By Jago Wynne
IVP. 200 pages. £8.99
ISBN 978-1-84474-372-8

Whether new to the workplace or a seasoned professional, this book seeks to help, inspire and challenge you to live for Christ in the world of work.

Combining his experiences as both a management consultant and a workplace minister at All Souls, Langham Place, Jago Wynne’s goal is to enable Christians to ‘work without wilting — to mature, flourish and be fruitful in their walk with the Lord, at work, as well as outside it’. The style is engaging and humorous and the obvious logic supported by slightly wacky analogies makes it easy to pick up and read in short and long measure alike.

Work is described firstly as a treadmill, with the challenge of stepping on, keeping going and stepping off it addressed through a combination of biblical truth, real-life case studies and practical applications. Jago then draws on a ‘trampoline’ analogy to address how Christians should respond to the highs and lows of working life; a ‘trout’ analogy to highlight how we can practically display christ-like attitudes and actions at work; and a ‘trumpet’ analogy to show how we can truly flourish for God in the work place.

Sensitive issues such as redundancy, relationships at work, stress and attitudes to money are addressed clearly with a biblical foundation and the helpful summaries and questions for reflection make it highly suitable for both individual and group consumption.

In summary, I share the enthusiasm of the many excellent endorsements included inside the front cover, a ‘must read’ for anyone who wants to ‘think Christianly’ about the world of work and a great gift for anyone just starting out in the workplace.
