An authentic servant (The Didasko Files)

Worth reflecting on

AN AUTHENTIC SERVANT (The Didasko Files)
By Ajith Fernando
The Lausanne Movement. 24 pages. £1.99 from http://www.10ofthose.com
ISBN 978-1-899464-04-3

Authenticity is a popular, but overworked word, and liable to be devalued in meaning. Ajith Fernando’s excellent booklet is a sorely-needed corrective that cuts straight to the heart of biblical authenticity.

He explores this theme clearly, and in terms of servant leadership, pulling no punches in underlining its cost. We ought to embrace the cross of suffering not only in self-denial, but in bearing the burdens of others; not through the clenched teeth of duty, but with joy.

Strength to serve in this way comes from the Lord and is gained through disciplined times with him in the Word. Ajith Fernando challenges much of our comfortable and easy-going discipleship.

As well as being thoroughly biblical in content, the material rings true because Ajith lives out what he has written in the daily pain and struggles of serving the Lord in Sri Lanka. It is compelling reading.

At the end are a series of searching questions. These hold a mirror for self-evaluation and are very suitable for small group studies. Highly recommended for pastors, elders, PCC, home group leaders.
