MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD (The Didasko Files)

Robert Murray McCheyne was the minister of St. Peter’s Kirk, Dundee, Scotland, until his death at the age of 29 in 1843. He is remembered as a godly pastor and powerful preacher who loved both the Lord and the lost of Dundee and beyond. He took spiritual matters seriously, spending much time with God, and hours pleading for men and women to be converted.
No doubt much of his depth resulted from him reading the whole of the Bible each year and the New Testament and Psalms twice. He urged other Christians to grow in their faith by daily reading the Scriptures and he developed a system to help build a habit of reading in more than one part of the Bible each day. His system has been used by countless Christians around the world ever since, so the Lausanne Movement has done the Christian world a great service in reproducing the scheme in an attractive and accessible way. This edition easily fits in a Bible, and has boxes to tick as you progress through the Bible.
A year after my conversion, I was introduced to Young Life who encourage all their members to follow a similar scheme. When we met each weekend the conversation would be on the things that we had learnt through our reading over the past few days. This was not only an incentive to keep up to date with the reading, but also to discuss together and learn from the striking lessons of the Word of God.
We all struggle in the daily, dogged yet delightful disciplines of Christian living so I commend More Precious than Gold as a means to read the Bible in one or two years, and I recommend doing so with a friend, so that you keep each other up to date.
