O EARTH! HEAR
Fifty years of GBM Radio
By Philip A. Grist
Grace Baptist Mission. 50 pages
This is the account of how the vision that radio could be used in the proclamation of the gospel came about, and how, over the last 50 years, it has grown into this valuable tool we so often take for granted.
This booklet records the struggles and problems they overcame so that today we can use this facility to spread good news over the entire world. The author was there from the beginning, and personally met, seven years later, the listener from whom the first letter came.
The ten brief chapters covering all the 50 years bring the reader up to the present time, also explaining the valuable part literature and letter writing played. It is well presented and full of pictures, old and new.
To all those who are interested in radio and its history, this is a valuable record of how what today seems primitive machinery was harnessed and used in some astonishing situations. For those who have known the work of Grace Baptist Mission (formerly SBM) over the years, it will have great appeal, reminding them of how the Lord answers the prayers of his people and of some of the stalwarts of a former age.
To those contemplating using their gifts in radio programme production, this will — as with all missionary biography — demonstrate that work done in the Lord’s name and for his glory is never in vain.
