This book was written by Juliet Barker, who first visited Caring for Life with her husband, the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, in 2004 when they accompanied the Countess of Wessex on a royal visit.

Published to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the formation of the charity, this account traces its development from the circumstances that triggered its small beginnings to the present day care and support extended to the vulnerable and homeless.

It is a book that will provoke a reaction in the reader. It will open your eyes to the massive need right on your own doorstep, even in our sophisticated and materialistic society. It will make you angry at a system that so often fails vulnerable people. It may even depress you as you realise that you belong to a country that still allows these things to happen.
