At university I was a big fan of Ginsters pies. Their strap line is ‘Real, honest food’. Tim Hawkins’s new book, The Cry of my Heart, is the spiritual equivalent for young people — real, honest Bible teaching.
The great thing about this book is it gets straight to the point, illustrates, emphasises, and then applies it.
Taking Jesus’s teaching from the mountainside in Matthew 5Ð7, Hawkins challenges young people to genuine discipleship. As you read through the book you may get frustrated, as Hawkins often repeats himself. On a few occasions you’ll even read the exact same sentence a few times in one page. The tendency is to skip to the end of the page with the excuse of knowing where his is going. Having said that, however, your young people will finish the book with no misunderstanding of its message.
Tim is a genuine disciple and it shows, as he calls young people to be obedient. This is a simple and, at times, repetitive book, that, however, adds to its quality. It’s very good and, what’s more, you can get the study book to complement it. I’m going to get a bundle for my young people — I suggest you do the same.
