‘Briefings’ is a series of short books which seek to chart the emergence of the Christian church in pioneer settings around the world. Sons of the Mughals and The Balkans are the most recent volumes and complete the set.
I was pleased at the opportunity to review these books. I have to admit that I’ve been particularly confused by the history and changing geographical and political landscape of the Balkans, despite the media focus in recent years. South Asia (particularly Afghanistan) is rarely off the news and mostly that news is gloomy.
These carefully researched volumes answered many of my questions and helped me to understand far better the cultural backdrop of both these regions.
The author is realistic about the spiritual situations, yet very positive. I felt my perspective change and my heart lift as I read of exciting opportunities and evidence of God at work in people’s lives even in the most unlikely of settings.
Glenn Myer’s clear and journalistic style meant that I’ve not been overloaded with information, despite the complexity of the subject, and I appreciated the prayer pointers at the back of each book.
I highly recommend these volumes as tools for informed prayer and look forward to reading the others in the series.
