Fancy a different approach to Bible study? This is a reference book for people studying the Bible. It can be used to find the answer to the type of question, What does the Bible say about …? It groups together verses and passages of the Bible which are about the same subject.
Traditionally, a Bible concordance has been used to find sets of verses or passages on the same subject, but that usually works only for a particular translation of the Bible. Where you find particular verses depends on which word has been used when translating them. This thesaurus takes as a basis the arrangement, structure and classification of Roget’s Thesaurus. For example, under ‘zeal’, it lists verses under the following sub-categories: about zeal (i.e. zeal in general); God’s zeal; those who were zealous; and selfish ambition.
Its general strength is that it is genuinely thematic, e.g. those who were zealous include: Apollos was ‘fervent in spirit’ (Acts 18.25) and Christ, ‘being in agony, he prayed more fervently’ (Luke 22.44). Jim Packer describes it as a remarkable aid to Bible study, and it is.
