I saw the Lord
Wake-up call
I SAW THE LORD
By Anne Graham Lotz

This book is a fervent wake-up call to all Christians. Anne bases the chapters on Isaiah’s reviving vision of the Lord, but refers to many other words of Scripture to back up her appeal.
She starts by suggesting that we may be sleeping and don’t realise that we need personal revival. We think we’re not all that bad, but as bright lights show up normally unseen dust, our respectable lives cover sinful hearts. Once aware of our inadequate Christian lives, she urges us to bend the knee, just say yes to Jesus’s prompting to personal revival and move our feet to get on and do it. She has an oft repeated refrain, ‘Your knowledge of God must drop the 18 inches from your head to your heart’. The last chapter then advises how to stay awake and gives ideas for Bible study and prayer to keep the flame kindled. Each chapter begins with a portion of ‘Carole’s story’. Carole didn’t know she needed revival, but she did, and we hear how God worked in her life to change her.
I have heard a recording of Anne speaking and the book reads as she speaks. In this sense I found it laborious to read, but some may enjoy the different ways she discusses and illustrates her thoughts. The book is full of passion and may serve, indeed, to ‘wake-up’ some sleeping Christians.
