If, like me, you’ve never had the opportunity to attend the Keswick Convention, this book takes you to the Big Tent. Taken straight from transcripts of the messages given at Keswick 2005, it carries a sense of immediacy and urgency.
Eight very different contributors, including Jonathan Lamb (pictured) in no way lessen the overall thrust of the book. I came away with a greater appreciation of the breadth of the glorious gospel.
Stephen Gaukroger expounds the glory of the gospel in Isaiah, as he takes us to the heart of the book through five key chapters. At times it’s theologically and intellectually demanding but the reward will be a grasp of the big picture of this ‘gospel’ book and of our salvation in Christ.
Chicago’s Joe Stowell’s energetic teaching on the glory of the new covenant is both encouraging and profoundly searching, as he challenges much of our wrong thinking about the gospel and life under the new covenant. Professor Sinclair Ferguson takes us to Paul’s teaching about the heart of the gospel. With incisive clarity he shows why we need clear thinking about the atonement, especially in the light of recent debate.
The last five chapters are expositions from the book of Acts, and come from men with a heart for mission. We’re urged to cross boundaries, to live for what’s worth dying for and to share in God’s passion for his world. We truly have a great and glorious gospel!
