WHAT WOMEN REALLY NEED

This collection of articles by different women seeks to address the question implied in the title. Issues such as Stability, Clarity, Security, Control, and Certainty are each tackled by a different author who shows how knowing Jesus can answer the deepest of needs.

It would not be my natural inclination to pick up a book subtitled: ‘Women talk about Contentment, Love and Forgiveness’, so it was good to discover some warm, robust chapters linking contemporary illustration with clear Bible teaching and application. Styles vary as one would expect, but all are confident in the foundational truths about Christ and the new life and hope offered through the cross.

Each introduces her piece by connecting with the world today, which helps to draw in the reader and suggest a dialogue in which we are engaged. The four personal stories included at intervals are both moving and helpful in fleshing out the teaching. Here we meet real people who share their discovery of Christ.

Outreach should be a favourite focus for all of us who know forgiveness ourselves, but not everyone feels confident to speak out about the good news; not everyone has a background of clear Bible preaching where they learned these truths.

Therefore I think this book could be useful in several ways: as a small group refresher study on the relevance of the gospel to human need; as a resource to give contacts who are asking these sort of questions; or to give an appropriate chapter which speaks directly to a person’s experience.
