THE ROAD AHEAD:
After the tsunami (DVD)
By Tearfund
14 minutes
The dreadful carnage caused by the tsunami of Boxing Day 2004 brought a huge and compassionate response from the British public. This is a 'thank you' on film from beneficiaries of gifts given through Tearfund.
We are taken to three locations. In Sri Lanka we meet a man who lost four of his children in the tragedy who has been helped to open a cafe and begin to rebuild his village community and his family's life. In Indonesia we hear the remarkable story of a woman who was in labour as the tsunami struck and managed to give birth on the roof of a house. Here gifts are helping to rebuild a Nursing School which should reopen in February. It is heartening to see how Christian gifts, like those of the Good Samaritan, have helped people of other faiths. Lastly we journey to India. Here Tearfund has been a major contributor to an EFICOR project which is building 159 new brick houses for a community which lost its village. Tomy Kuriakose working there says, 'I am telling you that your money is not wasted. Your money is absolutely being used for the betterment of people.' The DVD is a lovely testimony to the good work of Tearfund.
