A reluctant missionary
Her God of miracles
A RELUCTANT MISSIONARY
By Margaret Hayes
Day One. 128 pages. £6.00
ISBN 1 903087 75 9
You feel as though you are sitting drinking coffee with this remarkable lady as she reminisces over several decades of missionary service, as a nurse in Congo and then in the Republic of Niger.
She has a lively twinkle in her eyes as she recalls the joys of working with her God of miracles. Many times she pauses to give God the glory for helping her save a life — yes and very often a soul too, as many Africans responded to the message as well as the medicine.
Sometimes I wanted to stop her and ask her more; to let me in on her walk of faith as she coped with all manner of challenges. But it was not really that kind of a book; here is a dear lady who has triumphed over immense trauma (which she describes in her other book, Missing, believed killed) and who wants us to rejoice with her in the Lord she has proved so faithful in everyday life.
An easy read and packed with humorous tales! But, as you slip out of her flat, many cups of coffee later, you’ll be wondering whether you too will be able to look back one day on a life as devoted to the service of your Master.
