Is all Scripture inspired?

Convincing

IS ALL SCRIPTURE INSPIRED?
By J.C. Ryle
Banner of Truth. 74 pages. £3.50
ISBN 08515 1848 6

This is a true gem from a true genius. This short work, published originally as the preface to his book, Old Paths, deserves the solo attention now being given to it.

Here, in a mere 74 pages, he presented a practical, scholarly and readable defence of the historic, orthodox position on the Scriptures. The church needs Ryle and his works today, perhaps this one especially.

Why? Because Ryle's work is relevant. Let us not believe for one moment that the battle for the Bible has been won. Far from it; even within 'evangelical' ranks many will contest the doctrine of the plenary inspiration of the Bible. Ryle addresses issues commonly raised, such as the Bible's alleged discrepancies, historical errors and scientific errors, answering such challenges simply and convincingly.

Next, Ryle is readable. Though a true scholar, he writes as a pastor to his flock. This volume will be easily understood by the modern reader who may pass by weightier, but less approachable books.

Finally, Ryle is right. The entire Bible is inspired and true. Ryle displays something of the glory of the Bible to the encouragement of the reader's heart and mind. This book will assure the believer and help convince the sceptic.

This is a good introduction to the great bishop's writings.
