KING OF HEAVEN, LORD OF EARTH
A Study Guide for the Letter to the Colossians
By Steve Brady
Paternoster. 113 pages. £4.99

This is the first study book based on one of the Keswick Convention 'Bible readings' - in this case by Steve Brady, Principal of Moorlands Bible College.
There are 15 chapters, each about six pages in length. Each chapter is, essentially, the text of a lengthy 'point' in a three-point sermon by Steve Brady. Interspersed through the text are a series of questions, discussion points, ideas for action and further study (by Elizabeth McQuoid). It is intended for individual or group use.
This is an excellent book. It is reliable, readable and relevant. It is reliable: Colossians is thoroughly and accurately expounded - the pre-eminence and sufficiency of Christ is time and again driven home. It is readable: Steve Brady has a wonderfully easy style. What he wants to say is explained clearly and simply with plenty of memorable illustrations to keep your attention. It is relevant: the material is firmly applied to 21st-century life, and addresses the practical issues and difficulties faced by Christians living in today's world.
The study questions are generally helpful so the book could certainly be well used either by an individual or for group study.
The book is not, nor is it intended to be, a commentary. However, I would strongly encourage preachers to use the book alongside a technical commentary. When you feel you have understood what the passage is saying, this book will give you great help in getting across the message clearly, will aid you in understanding how to apply the message, and also supply many excellent illustrations.
