WALKING WITH GOD

This is a lovely little book. It is nice to have a hardback book at such a reasonable price. In some ways 'Walking with God' is like a modern version of Philip Doddridge's 'Rise and Progress'. Both seek to bring the non-Christian to conversion and then to spiritual maturity. J. John's book is much, much lighter and briefer than Doddridge's.
Walking with God is an exposition of the famous text: Micah 6.8: 'What does God want of us? To act justly and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.'
Section One begins with ten chapters explaining the Law of God. We need right actions - to act justly; and we need right attitudes - to love kindness.
The next seven chapters explain the gospel - teaching us who God is, what he has done for us and how we should respond.
In the third and final section of the book, J. John explains how we walk with God: Bible reading, prayer, fellowship and developing a godly character.
All this is explained very clearly in nice short chapters. It makes this a lovely book to give to a non-Christian who has just started coming to church or one of the young people - or a new believer.
Personally, I would have loved every point made to have been backed up by reference to the Scriptures - or at least a list of Bible references for further study at the end of each chapter. I would have liked the style to have been more gripping as well, but I am grateful for such a refreshing and sane introduction to the Christian message.
