Do we fantasise over the girls (or boys) in the office? Do we enjoy a little pornography? If we can say "yes" to these questions, do we really think our sin is more acceptable to God because it's heterosexual?' (p.28). The vital truth of this came home to me recently when I was interviewed on his weekly LBC radio show by Boy George, the gay singer and song-writer. He saw only a stereotype (though an understandable one) of Christians as anti-gay - and for that matter anti-sex. This book challenges such stereotyping and presents homosexuals as people rather than puzzles, problems or perverts. 13 gays and lesbians, or their mother, daughter, wife or husband, share their personal journeys frankly, movingly and courageously. Though these stories are all Australian, there are many Christians with similar experiences in churches throughout the UK and this book will help others to respond to their needs with understanding and compassion. No homophobia here then - but equally no fudging on biblical norms either. There are four useful appendices on the sociology of the gay rights movement, the causes of homosexuality, whether change is possible and what the NT teaches about homosexuality. There are also details of sources of further help, including UK organisations such as True Freedom Trust (www. Tftrust.u-net.com).
