It's quite a demand to know the contents of 66 books! It's even more demanding when they were written long ago in different societies, yet Christians ought to know their Bibles!

Many Bible study guides leave the reader knowing some passages well, but ignorant of others. The advantage of this survey is the way it gives equal attention to almost every book and treats each one in the same way with introduction, outline, message, key themes and application. This serves its purpose of displaying the 'overall pattern and purpose... the general thrust of each book'.

Six members or former members of the London Bible College staff, 'Bible teachers with their feet on the ground', wrote the text which was first published as 'The Bible in Outline' in 1985. Their knowledge and experience as teachers fitted them well to perceive and set out the basic features of the biblical books in a way designed to inform and stimulate readers to understand the purpose of the Scriptures and think about their relevance to life to-day.

Colour pictures placed every page or two illustrate some passages specifically, as the captions explain, while others give general impressions. In the text colour is used to highlight headings and the tables outlining the books' contents. Clear maps and plans chart the Israelites' Exodus journey, David's kingdom, Paul's travels, etc. The one for Palestine in the time of Christ oddly omits Bethsaida, Cana, Capernaum and other gospel sites, yet marks Hazor and Lachish, places important in Old Testament times.

This book would be an attractive present to encourage anyone beginning to study the Bible.
