With the many changes of scenery and the landscape across the modern Holy Land, David Wavre seeks to capture again the land that Jesus knew. With the help of artists down the centuries, as well as the wonders of modern photography, Wavre reminds us of the landscapes, scenery, buildings, inhabitants and customs surrounding the events of the life of Christ.
From Christ's birth to his weeping over Jerusalem, Wavre covers in 20 chapters some of the main events and miracles of Jesus's life. Aimed at the average church reader, the book is easy to read with short chapters. For example, the longest chapters are only about six pages in length and most are filled with paintings and photographs seeking to capture the spirit of the times. It is a pocket-sized cased hardback, making it convenient for carrying and reading on the bus to work.
As an introduction to the life of Christ, this book serves as an excellent tool, particularly for young Christians. Its strengths lie in its art and photography more than in its written content, although it does contain numerous Scripture references. However, I do feel that it is a little expensive, bearing in mind its size and content.
