From Shore to Shore
FROM SHORE TO SHORE
By Mike Perrin
Bryntirion Press. 185 pages. £6.95

This book tells of the three weeks it took for Mike Perrin, the founder of the Christian Mountain Centre in Snowdonia, to walk, with tent and sleeping bag, from Llanfairfechan on the North Wales coast to Swansea Bay in the South - almost 200 miles.
It is the record of a pilgrimage of an Englishman through Wales, a superb guide for the outdoor pursuit fan, (and a good read for those, like me, who prefer to follow him in my minds eye!). Each chapter describes a day's journey and has a map tracing the path taken. There are 16 quality colour photographs which identify which chapter they come from, thus helping you capture some of the splendid views and significant historical places en route. There is also expert information about route finding, equipment and photography. The author tells well the delights, the demands and the dangers of walking the mountains. Ideas for days out here, suitable for the average equipped walker, ranging from 6 miles to 16.
I enjoyed sharing this adventure. Mike has an eye for the bird in flight, the flower at his feet, the cloud formations, the peak soaring ahead, and the occasional burst of lyrical description to convey them to us. Surprise encounters too, as he comes across places famous for people whose gospel labours are valiant tales. I won't spoil the adventure - discover them as you read! Walk through some of the Christian heritage of Wales.
