Homosexuality and Young People

Homosexuality and Young People
By Colin Hart, Simon Calvert and Iain Bainbridge
The Christian Institute. 106 pages. £5.95
ISBN 1 901086 05 4

This A4-size report is sub-titled: 'A common sense examination of the secular facts'. It uses the main academic studies on the homosexual lifestyle, including studies by researchers sympathetic to gay rights.
It provides a source book of facts and uses them to argue against Stonewall's (a gay pressure group) legislative agenda e.g. lowering the age of consent to 16; abolishing Section 28 (prevention of the promotion of homosexuality by local authorities); and changing the law on gross indecency; some of which has already been promised by the government.
It consists of eight chapters on attitudes, statistics, practices, health, age of consent and other aspects of the law. At the end of each chapter there is a helpful summary.
It is clearly written but even with my medical background, I found parts of it on paedophilia, the list of homosexual practices and snippets from books promoting homosexual practice in adolescents (stocked in public libraries), upsetting. It provides evidence that exclusive homosexual practice is much rarer than commonly supposed i.e. less than 1%. The Kinsey figure (10%), still used to promote homosexual acceptance, is shown to be based on false sampling and corrupt practices.
The section on the health risks largely focuses on AIDS whilst hinting in a technical way at the other substantial risks. We would be scandalised if local authorities promoted smoking amongst children, a lesser risk to health, so why promote homosexual practice? After all, one cigarette doesn't kill, but one homosexual act could give you AIDS!
Who should read the report? All MPs should be sent a copy; and one put in public libraries; those involved in teaching and the debates surrounding the issues. If you don't fall into those categories, give it a miss! You know from Scripture that homosexual practice is wrong, so why clutter up your mind with the sad and corrupting details!
It would have been good to have had more details about the author.
