Making Progress in Church Life

Making Progress in Church Life
By Jonathan Lamb
40 pages. £1.95
ISBN 0 90012 817 8

Jonathan Lamb will be known to many as the European Secretary of IFES and Chairman of the Keswick Convention. Before that he was an elder of Belmont Chapel, Exeter.
This booklet on managing change stems from practical experience distilled in previous talks and seminars.
It is well organised and lucid. It deals with problems from spiritual, scriptural and organisational points of view and charts the priorities and interconnections between those strands. By his references he points to other helpful sources.
Although written from a Brethren background, the principles are universal. This is a useful booklet, and could well be a help for all members of a church committee (of any denomination) to read before facing any programme of change.
If read carefully, it is plain that the underlying principles are those of a conservative adherence to the authority of Scripture. My only fear is that some reading it superficially might, if they are not in sympathy with the basic presuppositions of the author, regard it as merely another business management guide for ministers.
