Without any shadow of a doubt this book has been a great blessing to me as I have used it in my daily time with the Lord.

It is a book which encourages the reader to discover the practical, warm, and loving grace of God towards his people. There is an appealing beauty about the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134) and, if you are not too familiar with them, then this is undoubtedly the book for you.

The author covers every human emotion and its warm practical style draws the reader in. You soon discover that Derek Thomas has a wonderful understanding of the human condition and offers practical applications from an experienced pastor’s background. This book is also a useful tool for small Bible study groups, as it is not just theological, but very practical in its application. It will undoubtedly appeal both to the young and to those a little older, both to those in the ministry and those in the pews. Its style will even entice those who are not great readers into reading this excellent book.

The main theme is about reconnecting with God despite external circumstances and to find there a loving shelter in the terrible storms that life affords to all of us at times.

This book will give those who read it a greater desire for a closer spiritual walk with God, avoiding modern trends of mysticism and man-centred worship. More importantly, this book escorts all who open its pages on a voyage of discovery to find out who God really is and what he thinks about those who his precious Son redeemed. Would I, as a pastor, recommend this book to those I preach to every week? Absolutely!
