I CHOOSE EVERYTHING
Embracing life in the face of terminal illness
By Jozanne Moss & Michael Wenham
Monarch Books. 192 pages. £7.99

This is a unique book. It is written honestly and helpfully by two Christians who have never met but who have collaborated to write on their shared experience of facing terminal illness with faith.
Jozanne Moss lives in South Africa and is a wife and mum of two young children. Michael Wenham is a Church of England vicar, married with a grown up family.
The forward to the book, written by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, sets the tone for what is to follow. He reminds the reader that as believers we are chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. Though we may have questions about the things the Lord allows us to face, we have eternal confidence and ultimate victory over all of our trials because of Christ who loved us and gave himself for us.
This book is full of hope and spiritual encouragement. Both authors are very honest about their experiences and struggles and their testimonies are both moving and Christ glorifying.
Jozanne’s story is in the form of a diary and Michael deals more with the theological questions behind sickness. Both testify to the faithfulness of the Lord in the midst of the painful and progressive journey they are facing.
Jozanne movingly shares of how the Lord has used this experience in their lives: ‘Through my illness God has stripped away everything that I could possibly turn to for security, those things that we don’t realise we put our trust in. So often we think we are trusting in the Lord when actually our faith lies in our abilities, talents and circumstances….’
The book is rich with practical help and advice, not just for other Christians facing terminal illness, but also for those seeking to be a help and support to them.
