'What can I do for next week's assembly?' This nagging question often lies in the back of a teacher's mind or the mind of the visiting speaker who has been invited to take a school assembly.
Resources that provide a fresh approach to this weekly challenge are always very welcome, especially material that tackles issues from a Christian perspective.
The author of this book is a retired headteacher, who provides a range of thoughtful approaches to the potential minefield of taking school assemblies. The book lists a variety of resources such as poems and songs that could be incorporated into an assembly. There is also a helpful collection of assembly starting points. The book includes some useful pictures that are intended for use on an OHP.
The main chapter of worked examples is written in script form and isn't very user-friendly. The aims aren't clearly communicated. This makes the essential ideas of each assembly difficult to grasp.
Overall, this book could be used for reference, but is quite an expensive resource.
