DEALING WITH DAWKINS

Many books have been written in reply to Richard Dawkins’s The God Delusion. John Blanchard has written this one to meet ‘a need for a brief, simply written response that exposes Dawkins’s mindset and pinpoints some of the major flaws in his case against God’.
In short chapters, he argues against Dawkins’s assertion that science is the answer to everything, that morality does not require religion, that religion is a major cause of great evil, and that there is almost certainly no God. He goes on to expose Dawkins’s inadequate view of the Bible, Christianity, Jesus and faith. He draws widely on the work of other authors, to whom he refers in notes at the end.
Blanchard answers Dawkins well on most points. However, I would have liked him to have said more about randomness in nature, to which Dawkins constantly refers, and the acts of destruction attributed to God in the Old Testament, which Dawkins cites and others also find difficult. Nevertheless, readers who would like brief answers to Dawkins will find much to help them here.
What really drives Dawkins is a mystery. He seems to have a compulsive desire to attack Christianity. We need to pray for him.
