DARWIN’S RACISTS
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
By Sharon Sebastian & Raymond G. Bohlin
VBW Publishing. 216 pages. £9.82
ISBN 978-1-60264-393-2

‘Not another book about Darwin.’ I confess that was my first thought upon opening the package that the postman had delivered. How thankful I am that I read this book through.

We live in an age when human life is being rapidly devalued. Legalised abortion at one end of life will probably result in euthanasia at the other end of life, as well as the constant persecution and elimination of those who are considered inferior.

If these issues are a concern to you then this book is essential reading.

The authors are right to point out that, ‘Darwin did not invent racism. Prejudice because someone is “other” than us has probably always been a part of human existence. What Darwin did provide was a scientific rationale that justified racial prejudice’ (p.23).

These things are worked through under three main headings, as the strap line ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ suggests. Included are: media matters, education curriculum, genetic engineering and science, to show how the powerful are manipulating the weak.

Many issues make for uncomfortable reading; ‘The Nazis were in so many ways picking up on ideas that first flourished in the United States under the progressives’ (p.40).

The contents of this book should be heeded in days when controlling the population explosion is a cause of concern to many. For, if some groups can be shown to be unnecessary, they will be dealt with accordingly, and Christians must have a powerful voice when it comes to matters of life and dignity.
