My friend is struggling with past sexual abuse

Youth in crisis

MY FRIEND IS STRUGGLING WITH PAST SEXUAL ABUSE
By Josh McDowell and Ed Stewart
Christian Focus. 64 pages. £2.99
ISBN 978-1-84550-443-4

This little book is one of a series of eight that were originally published in the USA as part of a larger project aimed at ‘youth in crisis’.

Each book is a fictional story interspersed with sections entitled ‘time to consider’. Biblical, psychological and practical comments are made about the subject in question. This booklet covers the difficult subject of sexual abuse. The aim of the book is to give a Christian young person the resources to be able to support a friend who is struggling with issues in her past. The booklet is aimed at 14-16-year-olds and the advice given is sound, although in the UK context we would want to add something about child protection responsibilities.

This booklet is a valuable resource for youth leaders. I also recommend the others in the series.
