The words of ‘the grace’ are familiar to many Christians, used regularly at the end of meetings as we commit each other to the Lord.

Many of us can recite them without a full understanding of what it is we’re asking for. In this easy-to-read book, Derek Prime explores the meaning and implications of this prayer from 2 Corinthians 13.14, by considering the three persons of the Trinity and their relationships to the Christian believer. In a warm, devotional style, he reminds the reader of the expressions of Christ’s grace, the Father’s love and the Spirit’s fellowship that every Christian may experience in their daily lives.

The busy reader will appreciate the way in which the book is divided into succinct chapters, packed with fresh insights and encouragements. Each chapter concludes with a few points for further personal reflection, which are helpful and thought provoking.

Although short in length, this book is not lightweight — it is bursting with biblical truth. The three blessings requested in ‘the grace’ are discussed separately in the three main parts of the book. There is a natural progression as the characteristics of the Trinity relating to these blessings are contemplated, which provides a helpful overview of the Christian faith. This makes the book accessible to readers of all levels of spiritual maturity.

Derek Prime uses simple, yet striking illustrations that convey the meaning of truths I realise I had understood only in part until now, despite having been a Christian for over 20 years. To have obtained a greater understanding of what it means to live under the blessing of God’s smile has made the time spent reading this book very worthwhile.
