New Age is big — but our God is bigger by far. In her search for love, purpose and peace, Beverley Risdon tried all that New Age offers. The reader won’t find theories about specific New Age movements, but rather an honest account from the ‘inside’.
From astral planing and opening herself to the Life Force to hobgoblins possessing her, she embraced the lot! She has two aims in writing the book:
1. A warning to unwary travellers of the pitfalls and deception of New Age. Her message is: ‘Beware, do not be deceived. Why bother with counterfeit when you can have the real thing?’ One hopes that a person involved in New Age would relate to Beverley’s experience and realise that it is only in Jesus that we ‘never thirst again’.
2. An appeal to Christians to gain a better understanding of New Age. She writes: ‘As a Christian, I have found that any mention of New Age experiences brings about a resistance and an attitude of absolute taboo. However, there are many things that a New Ager may experience which are not all bad. The problem is, it is not the whole truth — and this is the deception. It is with this in mind that I beg the Christian to not throw the baby out with the bathwater. For many people these experiences may seem extraordinary, but to overreact is also an error.’
The reader will need to judge for themselves whether the author has achieved her aims. Either way, every testimony glorifies God in revealing his saving grace and this book is no exception.
