ELISHA
Encountering the messenger of salvation
By Jim Winter
Day One. 104 pages. £5.00
ISBN 978-1-84625-113-9

This book is a delight. It is thoroughly biblical and, once started, will be eagerly read by those who want to know the Bible better and it would be an asset to any church library. The author shows God’s dealings with Elisha and the nation of Israel. The author draws parallels with the saving work of Jesus and asks key questions that every believer must answer and apply to be a fruitful servant of our God and Saviour.

The style is easy to read with short paragraphs and the book’s 11 chapters make it a valuable Bible study aid for ordinary Christians, and an excellent overview for preachers, and Sunday school and Bible club teachers. The historical background is there, plus two sections for further study, one on other Bible passages and the other giving thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter.

Seekers after truth will find this book helpful. It shows where and why Elisha appears in God’s plan for Israel. It illustrates the character of God and shows the nature of the Christian life through the life of this true man of God.

The author has used a variety of illustrations to make Elisha accessible to us. He brings out guiding principles without a hint of legalism. His very practical applications are often contained in questions.

This is the first in the series that I have read and I pray that the others will be as useful.
