GROWING UP... GROWING WISE @ HOME
Lovewise. £10.00
CD ROM (available from http://www.lovewise.org.uk)

The heartache of seeing young people seeking abortions or presenting themselves at the surgery with infections associated with sex caused Newcastle Christian Doctors Richards, Jones and Todd to form an organisation called Lovewise. This enabled them to go into local schools with a presentation that fits well into the SRE guidelines of the school syllabus.

Furthermore, Lovewise has produced this CD to be used by parents at home with their children. It consists of around 90 slides with a script covering puberty, relationships, marriage and sex within marriage and the responsibility of children for the parents. The presentation also faces that which in our society is increasingly promoted as ‘normal’ in sexual relationships. The boy/girl relationship and ‘going out’ are looked at, as well as the area of casual sex. It comes with pictures of family life and helpful diagrams showing the child in the womb and birth. Along the way it deals with general health and physical changes the young person can expect. ‘Harry Horome’ makes his screen debut at this point!

All this is cradled in biblical principles. It begins with the Creator God and looks at what love really is, particularly using 1 Corinthians 13. The commands of God are taken very seriously. The child or young person is encouraged to interact with the presentation by answering questions.

State education has become a matter of anxiety among Christian parents. We hear the horror stories. But while the teacher in the classroom may handle it well, the answer really is for the Christian parent to get there first. For a subject that is understandably embarrassing and rather daunting it is good to deal with it in the family in a God honouring way. This CD will be a great help.
