This pack contains four board books: Friends of Jesus, The Life of Jesus, Miracles of Jesus and Stories of Jesus. Each double page illustration has the Bible passage explained simply in just two sentences. Both the words and the pictures encourage conversation about what it is like to be friends with Jesus and live with him.

They are great to read to children under five. Beginning readers will love the fact that they can have a go at reading them by themselves. The pictures are clear and have just enough going on to capture the attention of little ones. A question to get them looking was a clever idea. My three-year-old niece enjoyed listening to the stories and looking for the answer to the questions. Whereas my five-year-old niece loved the fact that she could read it by herself easily.

I have a couple of reservations. The skin colour of Jesus and his friends could be more helpfully Middle Eastern. Also, as the books come in a delightful box with a flap which seems ideally suited to be read quietly (or looked through by a child) during a service, a velcro fastening did not seem to be the best choice for the rest of the congregation!
