365 days with Spurgeon, volume 3, is the third collection of daily readings from sermons preached by Charles Haddon Spurgeon from the Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit in the 19th century.

Dr. Terence Crosby of Trinity Road Chapel in Upper Tooting, London, has edited the three volumes. This volume covers Spurgeon’s ministry at the Metropolitan Tabernacle from 1867-1873. There has been no real change to the format of the sermons covered and the majority of the readings have been allocated to coincide with the actual dates on which the sermons were preached. Each reading indicates Spurgeon’s sermon title and text.

I was very pleased to read this volume as it is the first time I had read any of Spurgeon’s sermons. Despite the fact that he is known as the ‘Prince of Preachers’, I had formed a rather negative view of him. I pictured him as an overly stern Victorian preacher who must have been out of date and something of a caricature in his own time, never mind in today’s society.

Such misconceptions were painlessly exploded in my first readings. Spurgeon’s sermons are a joy to read: full of wisdom, insight and overflowing with confidence in the Scriptures as the infallible Word of God.

The length of each daily reading seems ideal. This is good material for daily quiet times.
