THE WORD OF HIS GRACE
A guide to teaching and preaching from Acts
By Chris Green
IVP. 189 pages. £8.99
ISBN 1 84474 075 7

Joshua and Caleb, with the other explorers, spied out Canaan. They reported back that it was a land flowing with milk and honey and they gave the people grapes from Eshcol, pomegranates and figs. This book is like that.

As I read this really good book, I felt Chris Green explaining Acts to me better than any commentary that I had read. In the first part of the book (only 75 pages), he described the seven major ‘panels’ of the book of Acts. This meant we didn’t miss the wood for the trees. Along the way, he shone the light on some of the unusual ‘trees’, showing how wonderful they are.

Then in the second half of the book, he fed us with good fruit from some of those ‘trees’, as he gave us six sermons from Acts. On top of this is good advice about how to read the book of Acts, how to preach it to believers and unbelievers and how to live it out. I loved this book. It made me see afresh that the Acts of the Apostles is indeed a book flowing with milk and honey and I enjoyed the good fruit given to me.

My advice is to buy it, and read it before the end of the month. I’ve just been out and bought his commentary on 2 Timothy!
