Into the promised land

Beyond the lesbian struggle

An honest struggle

INTO THE PROMISED LAND
Beyond the lesbian struggle
By Jeanette Howard
Monarch. 208 pages. £7.99
ISBN 1 85424 676 3

In her introduction, Jeanette Howard explains why she has written this book. ‘The way I have walked and am walking is not easy and will be applauded by few. However, I want to share with you the ways I have addressed this path so that you too can experience a “purposeful pilgrimage” and enter the Promised Land, rather than experiencing a “weary wandering” heading nowhere.’

This book is for those who struggle with a lesbian orientation and those who seek to help them.

The author continually looks to the Bible for her guidance and inspiration, while honestly sharing her own experiences, struggles and encouragements. She takes the reader through many Bible passages and teaches many profound lessons which are particularly helpful for those with a lesbian orientation, but also for those struggling with other temptations or just travelling through the storms of life.

This book contains both practical advice and many memorable quotations, such as: ‘Continual sunshine offers mere survival rather than abundance of life’, and ‘Once we can get beyond the question Why? and accept the Why not? we can begin to explore the What now? question which places us firmly within the earshot of God’s whispering voice.’

I recommend this book and believe it will inform, encourage and strengthen all readers who desire a more intimate and holy walk with our Lord.
