Just an idea — do you want to encourage Christian students in your family or church as they commence study this autumn? Then buy them a copy of this book which simply but powerfully recounts the stories of 11 students from differing backgrounds, their search for the truth about Christianity and how God’s grace transformed their lives.
This book can be used in two ways. Firstly, it will encourage Christian students to realise that God is at work in the lives of postmoderns. Secondly, it could be an immense help and challenge to students who may be asking some of life’s big questions, or struggling with difficult issues.
Take Phil (in the opening chapter) who said: ‘I liked the theory of there being a creator-God, but I wanted to work him out for myself.’ Or Umesh who admitted: ‘Hinduism was so empty to me and it bored me.’ Nancy had been a victim of sexual abuse but ends her story saying: ‘God’s forgiveness allowed me to forgive….’.
Tom, however, asked the question: ‘Why am I here and where am I going?’ His later reflection, ‘It was a puzzle — slowly but surely — coming together’, is a common thread running through the book. It concludes with a challenge to examine Christianity’s truth claims and encourages a personal response. Warmly commended.
