This series of four brief children’s books by Sinclair Ferguson covers concisely, and with relevant examples, Jesus’s teaching on the important subjects of how to be good, wise and happy, and also how to pray.

The books are designed to be read and discussed with children ranging in age from about five to ten years, the youngest being read to, and the older ones reading the material for themselves.

The subject matter is clearly based on Scripture and is equally helpful for the children and for the adults directing them. It is accompanied by bold illustrations, which enhance the teaching and lend themselves to more extensive ‘chatting’ about what Jesus‘s words really mean for us.

It is encouraging that such a well-known theologian should apply himself to writing Christian workbooks for children and that these books should be devoted to applying the Scriptures rather than just retelling Bible stories, however valuable that is.

I would certainly recommend the series as something which could be included in a Sunday School schedule, or in a one-to-one home situation where parents are trying to encourage their children to look together with them, at the real meaning of God’s Word.
