The Third Degree

Meet the team

Eleven new CU Staff Workers joined UCCF this summer. They play a vital role in co-ordinating the support of Christian Unions, as well as encouraging, advising, teaching and training students. Please pray for them as they begin this new stage of ministry.

Naomi Pilgrem (London) comes from France, and chose to study at King's College, London, because she had heard of CUs, and wanted to be part of one. After a year on Relay she moves to the east end of London to support smaller CUs in postmodern and multicultural universities.

Steph Bushall (FE College, SW London) became a Christian while studying at Goldsmiths College in London, through the witness of a friend, and through hearing the gospel explained clearly in a CU mission. Further study in a local FE college gave her a heart for the difficult task of witnessing to students in that environment through setting up and leading a CU there, which she followed with a year on Relay: 'There is nothing I would rather do than to continue this ministry as a Staff Worker in a wider number of colleges in London'.

Arlington Barron (Dundee, St. Andrews & Perth) is a Peruvian/Ecuadorian who spent four years on the Logos II, and the last two years at Belfast Bible College. He says: 'I really look forward to this new adventure with God'.

Ally Gordon (London) studied at Glasgow School of Art. After graduating, he joined the London team as a Relay Worker and then as Associate Staff Worker among art students. As CU Staff Worker he will be supporting some of the larger city centre CUs.

Kenny Robertson (Cornwall) grew up in the Scottish Highlands, and studied at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. After at time in industry, he did a year of Relay, and for the last two years has been on the Cornhill Training Course. He moves to Cornwall to do pioneering evangelistic work among students.

Karen Humprhis (Glasgow) grew up in Dundee, and studied at Edinburgh University. Since graduating she has been church youth worker in Belfast, travelled around Australia and New Zealand, and done a post-graduate course in Community Education. She joins CU Staff Worker Stuart Aitken in co-ordinating CU support across Glasgow.

Ben Carswell (Cardiff area) studied at Aberystwyth and Aberdeen Universities, and Bible College in the US. Having been actively involved in CU work, both during and after university, he is now looking forward to moving to Cardiff to support CUs in the city and surrounding area.

Adele Mortin (Plymouth area) has been working as a part-time church volunteer, working with young people and students. Having been a student at Exeter University, and the CU playing a big part in her Christian growth, she is now moving to Plymouth to co-ordinate support of CUs in that area.

Stanton (Aberdeen, Inverness and the Highlands) studied computer animation at Bournemouth University. For the last two years he has been church student worker. He now heads to Scotland, to help promote a vibrant Christian witness right at the heart of the most northerly university campuses in the British Isles.

Peter Dray (Lancashire & Cumbria) did his undergraduate degree at Bristol University, where he returned (after doing a Masters) to serve as Relay Worker. He heads north to work alongside Lancaster University CU, and other CUs in the Lancashire and Preston areas.

Steffan Jones (Welsh-speaking CUs) is a Welsh speaker who has been actively involved in CU life in Wales, both as a student, and as Relay Worker. He spent a further year on an IFES team in Slovenia, followed by time at the Evangelical Movement of Wales. He will be co-ordinating support of the Welsh-speaking CUs.
