THE POWER OF THE NIGHT

Chris Walley has now published the second of a trilogy of fantasies whose over-all title is The Lamb among the stars. The first one is entitled The Shadow at Evening.
We enter a future world in these books when people have been able to construct 'Made Worlds' which are still connected with Ancient Earth. There has been a long period of peace and order under God's rule when it is disrupted by the emergence of an unimagined evil.
The unlikely hero is Merral Stefan D'Avanos, a forester, who, in true biblical fashion, is hardly able to believe he has been called by God to battle together with the monsters, spacecraft and every other more dangerous thing against the destructive evil.
The book is an exciting and gripping read. The combination of scientific and technological aspects with the spiritual dimension all the way through, makes its creative depth captivating. The subtle way that evil changes people in their thinking and actions is brilliantly conveyed.
And after the distasteful atheism of Philip Pullman's Dark Materials Christians can read these books with full enjoyment. It is refreshing to read of men troubled by having to take the life even of an evil monster.
Who are these books aimed at? Teens-up. But Pullman's books are being read by younger children and these probably will be, too. Would it be an idea to order through a secular bookshop to get them noticed?
