Probably the most popular books advocating 'Progressive Creationism' among Bible-believing Christians are those by Dr. Hugh Ross of Canada, known for his California-based ministry, Reason to Believe, some of which have been published by the Navigators with the aim of helping Christians to reconcile supposed 'scientific facts' with Genesis. Unfortunately, many of these alleged 'facts' are no more than the opinions of evolutionary scientists and contradict the plain meaning of the text of Genesis. The main reason why Christians have lost the intellectual high ground, particularly in the UK, is their fear of confronting the spiritual stronghold of belief in a long age for planet earth. Therefore, while this book is vital reading for Christians in the USA, it is even more so for UK Christians - after all, this is where the compromise began and where it is most deeply rooted! The author, Dr. Jonathan Sarfati, received his PhD in physical chemistry from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, and has authored technical papers on high-temperature superconductors and sulphur- and selenium-containing ring and cage molecules. He currently works full-time for Answers in Genesis in Brisbane, Australia and has authored the excellent Refuting Evolution, of which at least 250,000 copies are currently in print. He shows, on biblical and scientific grounds, that both the earth and the universe are about 6,000 years old, that the days of creation were ordinary days, and that the sun and stars were created after the earth. He also shows that death, suffering and disease came into the world following Adam's sin and God's consequent curse upon the creation. He provides evidence that God created comparatively few 'kinds' and that many species are the results of diversification of the created gene-pools, requiring no input of additional information, as well as evidence that Adam and Eve contained enough genetic information to produce the entire range of people-groups inhabiting the world today, and that Neanderthals, like Homo erectus, are fossils of true human beings. He shows that Noah's flood must have covered the entire planet and that much of the fossil 'order' reflects the different stages of burial in this worldwide flood, as well as later local catastrophes. Yes, don't allow yourself to be intimidated by the arguments of those advocating compromise on such vital issues and so intellectually contributing, albeit unwittingly, to the demise of 'Western' society!
