The life of Raymond Johnston
A call for thinking and action
THE LIFE OF RAYMOND JOHNSTON
By David Holloway

25 pages. £2.50
This 25-page booklet is well worth £2.50. Raymond Johnston was the first evangelical to take the field against the new 'permissive society'.
He took the leadership of a protest movement, the 'National Festival of Light', and turned it into the existing charity, CARE, one of the most effective of Christian lobby groups. He was a close friend of Jim Packer and his theology was based on the sovereignty of God, which he applied to his care for society. This booklet gives the early hard-hitting and biblically-based criticism of the new abortion laws and it reminds us of the distance we have now gone down the slippery slope. He also compares the Christian moral order with Islam and argues: 'We in the West are now living in a collapsing culture. The enormities that are with us pollute the whole community.' But 'faithfulness to the Bible does change society'.
One of the few church leaders today who speaks as boldly and bluntly is he who put this excellent little booklet together.
