Holes

Sit back & enjoy

HOLES
Director: Andrew Davis.
Cert: PG
Starring: Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson, Patricia Arquette

We only go to the cinema when we're able to sit back and enjoy entertainment that has not been thoroughly polluted by violence, sex and bad language.

This film fits the bill. Adapted from the novel by Louis Sacher, 'Holes' is a wacky fantasy film that, although intended for the teen audience, has something for everyone.
The hero, Stanley, is a teenager sent away, on the charge of theft, to a correction camp in the desert. Here, the youngsters dig a large hole a day, supposedly to help them build character.
Of course, there are ulterior motives from the camp's evil hierarchy and all is revealed through flashbacks that twist and turn throughout the film.

Despite being completely unbelievable, the film is great fun to watch, relies heavily on the humour of the characters and has some terrific photography of the desert. Even as you walk away you are left thinking, 'Oh, so that was why ...!'
