Job - the guide

Inter-active little commentary

JOB - THE GUIDE
By Peter Bloomfield
Evangelical Press. 220 pages. £7.00
ISBN 0 85234 539 9

Here is a marvellous little commentary on the book of Job. This is part of an inspired new commentary series from EP called The Guide where the reader is invited to put questions directly to the author via email!

One of the first things I did was to try out the system to see how efficient it was. Within two hours of posting my question, the series editor emailed to say my question had been forwarded to the author and two days later a most helpful reply arrived.

Having dealt with the hi-tech novelties, let's now turn to the book itself. Well, no disappointments here! They succeeded in making a difficult book clear, easy to understand and apply to our lives today. The drama of the book comes vividly to life as we are introduced to the main characters on earth and in the heavenlies.

Most would, of course, assume that the book of Job deals in the main with suffering, but whilst this is most certainly brought out, the author picks up the New Testament verse in James to show that the book very much deals with the compassion and mercy of God! To see how this works out you will have to buy and read the book!

Each chapter is helpfully arranged with; introduction, teaching, things to remember, and concludes with a series of thought-provoking questions.

Who is the book for? As a pastor I found the book most helpful. It would also benefit members of my congregation of all ages and stages of Christian maturity. The book would also be a help to an unconverted person struggling with the issues raised by Job.
