  • Algeria: fines for Bibles

    World Watch Monitor

Large fines were given on 8 March to brothers who were transporting over 50 Bibles in a car for church use as they were accused of proselytism.

The Protestant Church of Algeria (known by its French acronym, EPA) issued a statement denouncing the ‘intimidation’ of the men. The EPA is a federation of 45 Protestant churches, mostly in Algeria’s northern coastal region, officially recognised by the Government in 1974. These fines follow several church closures.
