  • Don’t screen us out

    Christian Concern

The government signalled their intention to go ahead with the implementation of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening during October.

The procedure, which has a high detection rate for Down’s syndrome, would be introduced within the next three years, notionally in 2018. Little consultation was undertaken with activist groups and the families they represent, and it is feared that the screening with lead to a eugenic effect upon people with Down’s.

  • Hearing success

    Christian Concern

Following an end of October hearing, Barry Trayhorn was granted permission to appeal an Employment Tribunal ruling of 2014.

Barry was forced to resign from his job as a prison gardener at a sex offenders’ prison, after Bible verses that he quoted during a chapel service, where he volunteered, led to an aggressive response from prison authorities. The Employment Tribunal ruled that Barry had not been discriminated against because of his Christian faith and that the prison had acted properly in disciplining him.
