Not conformed but transformed

How can we respond to powerful pressures in the world around us in order to make our mark on it, and not be left only with its mark on us?
Five video sessions explore matters we face every day such as personal identity, pluralism and religious diversity, progress, and the consumer culture we are now immersed in. Their challenge is to not conform, but to be transformed! It's best used in small groups and comes complete with a leader's guide and a companion book.
The course is in the same format as another LBC video, Christian Life and Work, by Mark Greene. The video is of good quality and the course is well planned. But I found the subject matter this time too abstract, not as 'earthed', and consequently harder to follow. General use throughout a church's small group system might mean some are left a bit bewildered and it might not be as helpful as the first course has proved to be.
The 'patchy' nature was also reflected in the companion book. The various LBC contributors approach their subjects in very diverse ways. Some were great - the suggestions on how to reach people today contained in 'letters' from Paul to a modern 'Justin', and Derek Tidball's work on consumer culture. Others, while biblical, were not easy to follow and should have been more accessible if the 'average' churchgoer is the 'target', as the overall format would suggest.
Although I would happily commend this resource and may well use it, I have a feeling that more was bitten off than could be properly chewed, and maybe a sharper focus would have been more appropriate.
