GOD QUESTIONS
By Lance Pearson
Highland Books. 184 pages. £6.99
ISBN 1 897913 44 3

God questions describes itself as a 'reasoned guide to many of the questions we get asked as new Christians'.

Lance Pearson, as author, has provided us with a valuable, well-presented resource for anyone (regardless of how long they have been a Christian) who wants to answer friends faithfully and thoroughly. It is designed to be used as handbook rather than to be read cover-to-cover and is helpfully divided into sections to allow for quick and easy reference.

The book deals with a wide-ranging set of questions starting with 'What's the point of life?', moving to questions regarding the person of Jesus Christ and his life and central truths of the gospel. It also incorporates more issues-type questions relating to God's people, the church, the nature of baptism and the practice of communion. Each question is then answered in a systematic and memorable way enabling the reader to retain its information for future recall when talking with friends.

Undoubtedly it is designed with a younger audience in mind and in my view would be particularly useful to be given to teenagers and students to equip them to handle everyday conversations with their peers and fellow students. The book helpfully deals with the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, answering questions such as 'What do people mean by being renewed in the Spirit?' and 'Why do some people get so excited about the Holy Spirit?' which would be especially useful to give to a student starting at university where the charismatic issues would be hotly contested.

This is not a systematic theological text book, but is a valuable tool for any Christian wanting to improve their understanding of apologetics or systematic theology. Its design and format is very attractive and the book represents good value for money.
