50 Spiritual Exercises for Developing Healthy Groups and Teams

50 ways to leave your ungodliness

50 SPIRITUAL EXERCISES FOR DEVELOPING HEALTHY GROUPS AND TEAMS
By Rochelle Melander & Harold Eppley
Monarch Books. 127 pages
ISBN 1 85424 517 1

Do you want to discern what God wants for your group? Grow closer as a team? Work through conflict? Celebrate your accomplishments? Frustrated with largely unproductive meetings, devoid of spiritual content? Or perhaps, like me, you are just desperate for help with how to lead and motivate your PCC or deacons to walk more closely with God.

If so, then this book is for you. It does what it says in the title. It contains 50 tried and field tested group exercises to help your leadership team or group grow together spiritually and work more effectively. Subjects include: getting acquainted; building trust; setting goals; team building, discovering our gifts; facing a crisis; making important decisions; when we feel discouraged; respecting one another; forgiving one another. Each exercise is covered on two facing pages so it is dead easy to photocopy. Each takes between 15-20 minutes and includes an opening prayer, group exercise, biblical reflection, a Bible reading, group questions and a closing prayer. The idea of doing spiritual exercises at the start of what for many are simply business meetings may sound radical and may take a while to integrate. It's not often one finds a book which can be used straight away, as is in the ministry. This is one well worth having on your shelf although I suspect it won't stay there for long.
